Possible free agents for Sixers’ mid-level exception: Patty Mills
Ben Simmons’ fellow Australian has been on the radar of Philadelphia fans for a while now. With the Spurs inching ever closer to a proper rebuild, the 32-year-old Patty Mills may desire to take his services elsewhere. The Sixers have plenty of guards on the roster — Seth Curry, Tyrese Maxey, George Hill, Shake Milton — but it wouldn’t be hard to find a place for Mills.
Despite his diminutive stature, the 6-foot-1 Mills can impact winning at a high level. He’s tailor-made to provide that scoring punch so many second units crave. He’s a dynamic 3-point shooter, with deep range, confidence pulling up, and the ability to hit off-balance jumpers. He would make a fast friend with Joel Embiid in the two-man game.
Last season, Mills shot 37.5 percent on 6.3 attempts per game from deep. With Furkan Korkmaz and Danny Green — the Sixers’ two most bounteous 3-point shooters — eligible to leave in free agency, the Sixers could benefit from another high-volume threat. Mills fits the bill.
Also, in general, it’s positive to get veterans who know how to win in the building. Again, Green, as well as the likes of Dwight Howard and Anthony Tolliver, will possibly not rejoin the team next season. That’s a leadership structure that will need to be replaced. Certainly keep an eye on Mills.
