5 free agents from the NBA Finals the Sixers should consider: Bryn Forbes

Again, the Sixers can always use a good shooter. Bryn Forbes is probably a superior option to the hypothetical J.J. Redick reunion that many fans have tossed around this summer. His role has been somewhat limited in these Finals, but Forbes went nuclear in Milwaukee’s first-round defeat of Miami, and there’s no player better for maximizing Forbes’ off-balance shooting repertoire than Embiid.

Forbes would fill a Redick-like role in Philadelphia. He moves constantly without the ball, gravitating to open space and pulling the defense with him. The Sixers would get a lot out of Embiid-Forbes DHOs. The same can be said for the Simmons-Forbes pairing, should the former still be around.

Signed to a minimum contract last offseason, Forbes averaged 10.0 points and shot 45.2 percent from deep in 19.3 minutes per game with Milwaukee. He was playing over 25 minutes a night with San Antonio the year before. He would be a worthy use of the mid-level exception if the Sixers can’t find a bigger wing good enough for that price.

The Sixers may run into a small guard problem with Forbes, Seth Curry, and Tyrese Maxey all in the rotation, but as far as the regular season goes, Forbes would help the Sixers’ offense a lot. He’s not the best use of the mid-level, since he’s more a situational piece in the playoffs, but there have been worse uses of $6 million (see: Mike Scott).
