5 shooting guard free agent options in 2021: Ben McLemore

Let’s be clear, technically, Ben McLemore is a bust from the 2013 NBA Draft. That being written, he slowly transformed himself into a 3-point threat on offense. It appears that McLemore is joining contenders at this point in his career and that’s why the Philadelphia 76ers should be on his radar.

Whether it be Simmons, Tyrese Maxey, or another point guard, McLemore is an ideal running mate in transition as he can finish around the rim or spread out to an open 3-pointer. At 6-foot-3 he’s undersized at the off-guard and that hurts him as a defender, but his development as a 3-point shooter helps offset that.

This past season, he averaged 7.7 points on 34.6 percent shooting from deep. Granted he did shoot better with the Los Angeles Lakers after struggling on the Rockets. He’s played with stars like LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and James Harden over the past two seasons so playing with Embiid should be enticing for him.

He might not be in the rotation on regular basis, but he is always ready to play when called upon. He’s a veteran minimum type of player and he’d be a cheap way to add quality depth for Philadelphia.
