Re-drafting the 2019 NBA Draft: Matisse Thybulle rises, Sixers grab scorer
Re-drafting the 2019 NBA Draft — 28. Ty Jerome, Golden State Warriors
Ty Jerome is another player whose production last season was somewhat inflated by OKC’s dearth of polished NBA talent. Even so, for a sophomore to average 10.7 points on .446/.423/.765 shooting splits is no small feat. Jerome clearly belongs in the league.
Offensively, the fit is clear. With Poole out of the mix, Golden State gets another backup point guard who can orchestrate the second unit offense and hit 3s at a healthy clip. Jerome is 6-foot-5 too, meaning he can share the floor with Stephen Curry and Golden State’s other small guards if need be.
Defense is an issue, as Jerome is not a good athlete by NBA standards, but he plays hard and supplies enough offensive value to stay on the floor. His high basketball I.Q. has carried over from Virginia, and there’s no doubt he would carve out a spot in Steve Kerr’s bench unit.
