There’s finally a chance for the Philadelphia 76ers to have legit trade talks with the Portland Trail Blazers. This is due to the fact that the Blazers have let go of executive Neil Olshey due to internal issues, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

With Olshey out and the Blazers standing at 11-11, Portland’s future is in doubt. Olshey was replaced by Joe Cronin on an interim basis until the organization finds Olshey’s success, according to Wojnarowski. Whether it’s Cronin or someone else, the Blazers should be open to changing their roster.

They have a rookie head coach in Chauncey Billups, so switching from playoff contention to a rebuild isn’t a big issue for a rookie head coach. Overall, if the Blazers decide to shake up the roster or to straight up rebuild, then the Sixers can make several legit offers.

3 potential trades the Sixers should call the Blazers about: Defensive wing

The Sixers have a major need for a defensive wing, as I recently wrote about. That being written, this hypothetical trade below cannot be completed until December 15, 2021, due to trade restrictions on two of the players involved.

The 76ers get a fan favorite back in Robert Covington who is a great off-ball defender and a good on-ball defender. He’s also a solid 3-point shooter who can be easily inserted into the starting five. This year, he’s averaging 6.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.0 steals, 1.0 blocks, while making 37.5 percent of his shots from the 3-point line.

Getting Dennis Smith Jr. also gives the Sixers a security blanket at the point guard depth chart. Thus far this season, Smith has averaged 3.8 points and 2.7 assists, while making 34.8 percent of his field goals. No, he probably won’t leap-frog Shake Milton for the backup point guard role, but he’s a better option than Furkan Korkmaz as the third string point guard.

Danny Green is sent to Blazers as a savvy veteran who can help Coach Billups establish a good culture. He also is a good salary filler and could be flipped in a later trade if Portland decides to go that route. Jaden Springer is a young prospect that they can develop, especially if they go into a rebuild.
