Sixers: 3 players who can step up in Seth Curry’s role
3 Sixers players who can step up in Curry’s place: Tyrese Maxey
Not counting Harden who has only played four games and Tyler Johnson who played three games for the Philadelphia 76ers, Tyrese Maxey has had the highest 3-point percentage of any Sixers players this year.
Before the season, no fan could have seen this coming from the second year guard. Last year, Maxey shot just 30.1 percent from behind the arc on just 1.7 attempts. This season, he’s shooting 42.3 percent from downtown on 3.7 attempts.
Believe it or not, in the four games he’s played with Harden, Maxey’s 3-point shot has even gotten better. He’s averaging 26.8 points while converting 14-20 from the 3-point line. That’s on average five attempts per game.
Let’s be clear, he’s not going to continue to shoot 70.0 percent from deep when Harden is in the lineup, but there’s no denying that Maxey has put in the work to become a good 3-point shooter. He probably won’t be able to take over Curry’s role this season, but it’s not impossible to think he can in the future.
