Re-drafting the 2014 NBA Draft: Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic
Re-drafting the 2014 NBA Draft — 11. Joe Harris
Joe Harris is a prototypical star in his role. He doesn’t do a whole lot on the court, but what he does do, he does at the highest possible level. Harris is one of the NBA’s most prolific off-ball weapons. The list of superior 3-point shooters is very short. It may only consist of two notable Golden State Warriors and his Brooklyn teammate, Seth Curry.
The modern NBA is clearly suited to Harris’ skill set. He can play any style: he keeps his defender occupied with constant movement in the halfcourt. If he’s running the fast break, that’s one player the defense can’t ignore, in turn making the lane more vulnerable to whoever’s driving the rock.
The biggest concern moving forward is the torn ACL he will be returning from in 2022-23. Harris’ skill set and play style can survive an ACL tear, but it’s fair to wonder what shape he’ll be in — especially on defense. He has never been an elite athlete, but Harris’ offense can only take him so far if he becomes a liability on defense.
