It has already been said numerous times that the Philadelphia 76ers are widely believed to be one of the frontrunners to land LeBron James, and to that effect, the front office had just made its biggest public pitch yet. Team president Mike Gansey was asked about his thoughts on the raging sweepstakes for the 22-time All-Star, and his response was certainly pretty telling of where the organization stands with LeBron. Transcribed by The Athletic's Tony Jones (subscription required):

"LeBron and his camp have kept quiet, and there has been speculation for different teams. But we’d obviously love to have him. I respect the heck out of him. In my opinion, he’s the best player of all time."

If anything, this only cements that the 76ers remain pretty aggressive in pursuing James. His decision is expected to come sooner rather than later, and from the looks of it, the entire free agency market is currently on pause because of this sweepstakes.

The 76ers are banking on the promise of strong championship contention to lureJames and his camp to come to Philly. Luckily for them, winning a title appears to be the controlling factor for him at this point in time, which makes a lot of sense given that the 2026-27 campaign could very well end up being his final season in the league.

Gansey's latest statement only fortifies their approach in the bidding war, and it is perhaps the organization's loudest sales talk yet. Bob Myers previously hopped on Rich Paul's podcast and made a recruitment pitch for the 76ers, but his involvement with the franchise lies more in an advisory capacity.

LeBron could be the shot in the arm Philly needs

Anyhow, the 76ers remain dead-set on acquiring James on the open market. After all, aside from what he brings to the table with his sheer talent, he is simply a dream fit for this group. Philly is in dire need of a playmaker, and LeBron is definitely the best example of one. Their depth at the forward positions is also another area of concern, and he can play as the three and four with utmost ease.

At this point, no one knows what LeBron's decision will look like, but the 76ers have definitely already laid all of their cards out on the table. It is now up to the megastar alone to determine whether Philly will be his likely final home or not.
