The Philadelphia 76ers are almost set for what could be a very eventful 2026-27 season, but they still have a roster spot available for occupancy. For now, they are not exactly equipped to fill that up, but when the time comes, they could set their sights on Gabe Vincent, who remains unsigned in the free agency market, in order to shore up their guard rotation for the upcoming campaign.
Vincent, who played with LeBron in Los Angeles for three years, could be worth taking a flier on for Philly's brain trust. While his name has been the subject of ridicule a lot of times due to his iffy play on the offensive end for the Lakers, he still possesses some traits that could prove to be valuable to the 76ers' winning cause for next season, making him a good, inexpensive target for the squad in the open market.
Ex-LeBron teammate Gabe Vincent could be worth the try for the 76ers' final roster spot
Vincent's numbers on the offensive end during his stint with the Lakers were admittedly flat-out bad. Over the last three seasons, which include a cameo stretch for the Hawks last season after Los Angeles shipped him before the deadline, he averaged 5.3 points and 1.4 assists a night on 37.8 percent shooting from the field, which includes a 33.5 percent success rate from beyond the arc, despite registering nearly 20 minutes per contest.
There is no feasible way to justify or defend his meager offense, but he is not exactly a hopeless case. There is a reason why the Lakers and the Hawks still deployed him on a regular basis. After all, he is someone who is competent enough on the defensive end and is not afraid to take on the intangibles part of the game. He also has Finals experience, which is especially valuable for role players on this team.
Vincent may be quite undersized, but he more than makes up for it with his hustle and physicality as a backcourt stopper. Those are good traits to have for someone who will serve as depth insurance. While not a complete necessity, the 76ers should have a backcourt operator who can take on tougher assignments without needing to have the ball in his hands.
The 76ers have a star-studded lineup for next season, but having varied role players who bring different things to the table helps a ton to combat various in-game situations. To that effect, Gabe Vincent should be a good target for them for their final roster spot once it truly opens up.
