As first reported by ESPN's Shams Charania, the Philadelphia 76ers will pay a visit to the New York Knicks for the foremost game of the upcoming campaign. As such, the former will face an early championship test to see how they measure up against the reigning champions.
The 76ers will be heavily featured this season after the blockbuster offseason they have had, starting with their mammoth trade to bring in Jaylen Brown and their monumental addition through free agency in LeBron James. Hence, it is not surprising to see them draw first blood in the regular season, as their title bid will surely be under the microscope all year long.

With New York being the defending champs, Philly will witness the Knicks get their championship rings and hoist up their banner. That should be extra motivation for the 76ers, which were disposed of by the same team they will be visiting on opening night during the last postseason.
Naturally, the Knicks will be the golden standard for the Eastern Conference this season. Thus, there is no better opponent for the 76ers to go up against for their first game of the year. New York is coming off a pretty hot playoff run where they lost just three games, and it will be nice to see Philly puy a dent on their record right from the get go.
With James and Brown fortifying an already formidable nucleus consisting of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and VJ Edgecombe, the 76ers are penciled in as a strong contender for the title. However, until and unless the Knicks get knocked off, they will remain the favorite to come out of the East and play in the Finals. That is simply the kind of reputation they have built thanks to their brilliant display of basketball in their title run.
The sweetest victories are the ones that come on the road, and the 76ers will have a big chance to make an early statement as they face the Knicks in the Big Apple. They still have a long way to go ahead of that highly anticipated matinee, but as long as health permits, they should be very capable of starting off their campaign with a statement win.
