After impressing during a short stint with the Washington Wizards, Julian Reese now finds himself scouring the free agency market for potential suitors. The Denver Nuggets had no intention of retaining the physical forward's two-way contract after landing him in the complicated Peyton Watson trade, which could present the Philadelphia 76ers with an opportunity to sign Reese to a similar contract.

Julian Reese fits the two-way profile the 76ers require

Philadelphia is in no hurry to fill its final two-way spot. After having big success with Dominick Barlow on an identical contract to start the 2025-26 season, the 76ers have proven that their eye for underrated talent can be the perfect gateway for a player to land a standard contract with the franchise. And given Julian Reese's intriguing physical attributes, he could be the next player to salvage his NBA career after being brutally waived by the Nuggets.

Reese may have only featured in 13 games for the Washington Wizards; however, it quickly became apparent that, much like his superstar sister Angel Reese, Julian also poses an intimidating presence in the paint.

During his rookie season, Reese averaged 11.8 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game, while shooting 52.9% from the floor. Sixers fans would be right to direct their gaze swiftly to his dominance on the boards. Could the City of Philadelphia finally uncover the perfect partner to reduce Joel Embiid's rebounding duties?

Embiid and Reese are a match made in heaven

Predicting Joel Embiid's health is almost identical to a game of Russian Roulette; the bullet is in the barrel, but you never know when it's going to fire. Embiid appears to be in great shape currently, but Lady Luck has yet to bless the talented center with an injury-free campaign.

If the Philadelphia 76ers truly want to win the championship, they need Embiid on the floor alongside the superstar roster they have recently assembled. While there is no perfect antidote for the 32-year-old's proneness to injury, the franchise can pair his minutes with players willing to carry much of Embiid's defensive burden.

Yes, Julian Reese might have exhibited exciting scoring traits during his first year in the league, but an invitation to join the league's most exciting franchise with the requirement of doing the 'dirty work' would be too enticing an opportunity to turn down. The second-year forward would happily accept a two-way contract with the sole job of making Embiid's life easier in exchange for the invaluable knowledge of former NBA champions LeBron James and Jaylen Brown.

Nobody can dispute just how brilliant Julian Reese could be alongside Joel Embiid. The 2023 MVP requires players in the rotation who can alleviate the strain on his recent knee injuries. If Reese would accept a two-way contract with the understanding that he is here to pick up Embiid's slack, then the Philadelphia 76ers may have found the last piece to their championship jigsaw.
