These are attributes that Sixers head coach Nick Nurse will be delighted to work with. An efficient shooter with an eye for a pass -- isn't this the offensive guard every franchise dreams of selecting?
While this might be the case, there is no need to throw a young athlete into a high-stakes situation. From the outside looking in, Tyrese Maxey, LeBron James, and Jaylen Brown are all fantastic teammates, but this is a team in win-now mode, and it's hard to believe these players will accept mistakes in a season of this magnitude.
Nick Nurse has an abundance of ball-handling stars on this roster; it will benefit both Philadelphia and Philon Jr. if his time on the floor is carefully selected. For the money players are compensated in this day and age, nobody deserves to be shelved to avoid criticism. Nevertheless, Philon Jr. is a player with immense potential; why throw him into a situation that can stunt his development?
To my memory, not many rookies have landed in a more promising situation than Labaron Philon Jr. has in recent NBA history. The rookie isn't about to learn the trade from good veterans, but he is about to be educated by one of the greatest players of all time -- all while playing a minimal role in the rotation. Philon can't afford to take such a golden opportunity for granted.
