With so many entries on their offseason checklist, at least presumably, there is simply no telling with utmost conviction how the Philadelphia 76ers will move this offseason. There are a slew of possibilities for the front office this summer, and this optionality is certainly something that will make for one of the more interesting storylines to follow in the league.

For now, the offseason has already kicked off in grandiose fashion. Despite the 2025 NBA Finals still only approaching its climactic peak, there has already been a blockbuster trade just recently. There is also the upcoming draft, which is only a hair above a week away as of writing. And of course, how can anyone miss out on the ceaseless trade rumors swirling around involving Kevin Durant?

Arguably the best player realistically obtainable this offseason via trade, the Durant train is already heating up. The 76ers are currently not pegged as a serious contender to nab him given the superstar having already expressed a handful of preferred landing spots. However, if the latest rumors are true, they might actually still be in the running.

The 76ers could still have a chance to trade for Kevin Durant after latest rumors

The Spurs, Rockets, and Heat were zeroed in as teams that Durant has expressed a strong willingness to commit long-term, but now, the Suns do not seem predisposed to just yielding to the superstar’s desires.

According to Marc Stein, Phoenix is not committed to trading the 15-time All-Star to any of his preferred destinations at this moment, meaning that their front office is still exploring ways to extract the most assets possible, notwithstanding the team making the offer.

In that case, the 76ers are technically not yet booted out of the Durant sweepstakes. So far, Philadelphia’s brass has not given any strong indications that it is seriously running after the All-Star, but at this rate, they got to at least try and whip up an offer for the Suns.

After all, the 76ers do boast some tenable avenues to make the salaries work and further sweeten the pot for Phoenix, which seems to be gunning for a future-oriented return alongside some win-now pieces to complement Devin Booker.

Philly has multiple pathways to get a prospective deal done. It could either offer George straight-up along with some draft capital, or go bigger with someone like, say, Joel Embiid.

Anyhow, the Philadelphia 76ers may be long shots to acquire Kevin Durant, but the front office has to at least conduct due diligence on what it would take to pry him away from his desired landing spots. After all, the two-time Finals MVP is still going strong and would certainly raise the team’s collective ceiling for next season.
