It's never too early to start putting together realistic trade targets for the Philadelphia 76ers, who have to lay low in the trade market for the time being.
After a busy offseason, which included a blockbuster deal with the Boston Celtics for Jaylen Brown and a bargain signing with LeBron James, the Sixers are going to roll into the 2026-2027 season with an open roster spot and an open mind with patience.
In the meantime, we'll continue scanning the league for the most realistic trade targets, taking a look at the Atlanta Hawks.
A big man to keep on the radar
The Sixers' most glaring need before training camp is the center position. There's a lot of uncertainty behind Joel Embiid, with Adem Bona and Ariel Hukporti. Both young centers have shown promise, but they haven't convinced anybody that they are reliable long-term backups.
The financial situation gives Bona and Hukporti a chance to prove themselves, but if the 76ers are approaching the 2027 trade deadline with uncertainty at the position still, you can bet they'll be making calls. If Atlanta's willing to get on the phone, Jock Landale could be a target in late January.
During the 2025-2026 season, Landale started the year with the Memphis Grizzlies after his Houston Rockets stint. The veteran center appeared in 45 games with the Grizzlies, posting averages of 11.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists.
When he got to Atlanta, Landale appeared in 23 games for the Hawks, averaging 19.4 minutes off the bench. He produced 9.1 points per game and 4.1 rebounds. Landale drained 39.1% of his threes.
The path to a Landale deal
This is where we get hesitant. I view the Sixers as a team that should be in buy-low territory only at the moment. Landale is on a one-year deal, but $14.1 million isn't exactly cheap. It's going to cost the Sixers one of their underrated chips in Anfernee Simons, and more.
Does Labaron Philon Jr. look like a total bust, or is the Dominick Barlow experiment something the Sixers are no longer valuing as much? One of those two would have to enter the package, and giving the Hawks back a big man in Ariel Hukporti would be necessary. A three-for-one for a center who is on his fifth team since 2021 with just eight games of playoff experience doesn't exactly scream premier target for the 76ers.
The 76ers would have to be totally down on their current center picture in order to make this kind of gamble on the Hawks' center. You can pencil him in as realistic, but this one is no bargain.
