Not long after officially signing with the Philadelphia 76ers, the veteran NBA center Tacko Fall received a notable endorsement from one of his star teammates, Jaylen Brown.
In an X post, Brown simply put the goat emoji as a response to a report about Fall re-entering the NBA and joining the Sixers. It's a nice gesture from a player who has been teammates with Fall in the past.
Does the Jaylen Brown endorsement give Fall a boost?
Well, an endorsement from a star player on the roster certainly doesn't hurt. It's not every day that an Exhibit 10 guy gets called the GOAT by a player who just turned in an MVP-caliber season.
I'd say that Brown's words--or emoji--are a great look for the big man. But does it actually matter for Fall's chances of making the roster? Most likely not.
At the end of the day, Fall is on a training camp deal. Of course, his name generated plenty of buzz after the Sixers made their September 1 roster announcement, but he was one of three players added at the same time. The Sixers also picked up Jameer Nelson Jr. and Saint Thomas.
Fall has a slim shot at making the roster, and the Sixers would need to make a follow-up move in order to get him on a standard deal, if that's the path they would like to take. Currently, there isn't a player in mind who could be a cut candidate. While Jabari Walker's deal isn't fully guaranteed, the Sixers traded a second-year center, Johni Broome, in order to add Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, without cutting ties with Walker. That goes to show how much they value Walker.
Tacko Fall has an opportunity
The chances of Fall cracking the roster might be slim, but that doesn't mean he'll be mailing it in. In a discussion with Brandon Robinson, Fall reportedly said that his opportunity with the Sixers is "an opportunity of a lifetime that I shall not waste." Fall is excited to reunite with Brown, who is clearly fond of the veteran center.
An opportunity with the Sixers might not be available right away, but it's not crack Philly's roster or bust. Fall will get a chance to showcase himself on an NBA stage during the preseason for the first time since 2022, when he played with the Cleveland Cavaliers. If Fall is cut loose before opening night, he'll have a chance to go to the NBA G League to play with the Delaware Blue Coats.
Anything can happen, but for the time being, Fall is going to battle against 76ers bigs Joel Embiid, Adem Bona, and Ariel Hukporti.
