The Philadelphia 76ers are making a big signing. Literally, they are bringing on the 7'6" center, Tacko Fall, to join the team for training camp.
After the Sixers made the official announcement, the Philly Voice confirmed that the Sixers are utilizing an Exhibit 10 deal to add Fall to the roster ahead of training camp.
Nothing is guaranteed for Fall's future
Based on the deal that Fall is on, his chances of playing for the Delaware Blue Coats of the NBA G League are higher than his chances of making the final roster.
Considering the Sixers' financial situation, even a minimum deal would require the Sixers to make a follow-up move, despite having an additional roster spot at the moment.
Currently, the Sixers have one player whose salary is only partially guaranteed for the upcoming season in Jabari Walker. The 76ers showed a clear interest in keeping Walker around, since they traded Johni Broome to the Los Angeles Clippers in order to make room for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, rather than waiving Walker.
Should the 76ers' center group be on notice?
Overall, they should be, but not due to the pressure of Tacko Fall entering the picture. The former Boston Celtics big man has had a lot of support throughout his NBA days. He was a fan favorite, and plenty of hoops fans wanted to see him succeed.
Unfortunately, Fall simply didn't pan out the way the Celtics had hoped. After picking him up as an undrafted prospect out of UCF in 2019, Fall appeared in just seven games during the 2019-2020 NBA season. He saw the court for an average of 4.7 minutes per game.
During his second season in 2020-2021, Fall appeared in 19 games for the Celtics, seeing the court for 7.2 minutes per game. He averaged 2.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game as a sophomore.
The Cleveland Cavaliers issued a two-way deal to Fall in 2021. He appeared in just 11 games with the Cavs during the 2021-2022 season. With 5.4 minutes of action per game, Fall posted averages of 1.1 points and 2.1 rebounds. Since then, Fall has had runs in the G League and overseas. His out-of-NBA landing spots included China and New Zealand.
There's a reason why Fall hasn't been in the NBA since 2022. As impressive as his size is, the veteran center simply hasn't done enough to stand out to teams across the league. The Sixers might have question marks and a lack of experience with Adem Bona and Ariel Hukporti behind Joel Embiid, but Fall doesn't bring much more to the table, having just 37 games under his belt.
