No better man to say this than the King.

The 76ers are off to a rousing start to the 2026-27 season. Through their first nine games, they have already racked up eight wins while only tallying one loss so far. Despite the squad still acclimating to each other, this group is already showing the makings and the style of a team to beat in the Eastern Conference. Be that as it may, LeBron James remains unfazed by what his new ball club has accomplished so far.

Philadelphia was widely considered a title favorite ahead of the season, and their sterling record thus far only validates that claim. However, James is pushing back on talks related to the team making the Finals at this point in time, sending a message urging the team to remain cautious and keep building as the season progresses.

LeBron James is not buying into NBA Finals talks for the 76ers just yet

Following Philly's most recent win over the Pistons to notch their eighth win of the season, James warned against championship proclamations surrounding the 76ers. He said that it is too early to be talking about the Finals given that it is still early in November and that instead, the team should remain committed to buying into what they want to do as a group.

Of course, with the 76ers having the best record in the East right now despite their tough schedule, it is unavoidable for people to have them penciled in as a likely Finals team. The fact that previous LeBron teams touting the same start have also made it to the biggest stage eventually only oils up those talks.

That being said, there is a lot to like about the position this team finds itself in at present. Philadelphia still has a lot of rough patches on the offensive end, as can be gleaned from their 20th-ranked offensive rating, but they have one of the most suffocating defenses right now. That instantly elevates their floor as a group, and if they can smooth things out with regard to their scoring attack, their ceiling will get even higher.

There is no better man to dish out this kind of warning than LeBron James. The megastar is on the hunt for his fifth championship as his legendary career wanes, which goes hand-in-hand with the franchise being desperate to snap its title drought that has lasted for more than four decades. Still, he has seen it all, so the 76ers have to take his message to heart and just focus on improving as a unit every day.
