Former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Micah Parsons voiced his displeasure at LeBron James choosing the Philadelphia 76ers as his new home in an exclusive interview with FanSided's Sterling Holmes. The four-time NFL Pro-Bowler explained, "They were already good without LeBron [James], and LeBron choosing to go there kind of ruined it." Should this anger the City of Philadelphia? Absolutely not; this statement only further proves that this roster is ready for a championship.
Micah Parsons inadvertently hails the Sixers' new-look roster
Despite being a sworn enemy of the Philadelphia Eagles, it may come as a surprise to many that Micah Parsons' NBA allegiance lies with the 76ers. Which, in a sense, makes his irritation that the Sixers landed LeBron's signature quite peculiar.
When asked about his opinion on James' new landing spot, Parsons stated, "I’m happy for the Sixers, but I didn’t want LeBron [James] to go there, to be honest.” He continued, "They was already good without LeBron, and LeBron choosing to go there kind of ruined it because so many people are hating on the Sixers now -- yeah, it's unethical for sure.”
Is this a popular consensus outside of the 76ers? Possibly. A team finding a way to acquire one of the greatest players in NBA history to partner with elite stars such as Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey seems like something out of a video game. In fact, even in the virtual world, it would be nigh on impossible to tie down LeBron James to a two-year, $7,946,884 contract.
However, while voices outside the organisation are somewhat disgruntled by LeBron's decision, it should stir excitement amongst the Philadelphia fan base as this is a star-studded roster ready to make a championship tilt.
LeBron's arrival creates high expectations in Philadelphia
Micah Parsons admitted, "I get it, it was a complete team that he was going to, and he wants another championship." Having this level of talent both in the starting lineup and off the bench puts the 76ers in a position few could have envisioned just 12 months ago, but superstars come with expectations -- something that could work against Nick Nurse and his Avengers should they get off to a slow start.
Nobody feels sorry for Nick Nurse for having a star-studded roster at his disposal, but he will be the main focus of criticism should his team fail to find its rhythm early. Question marks have already been raised over how LeBron James will fit alongside other players who thrive with the ball in their hands.
A team has never won an NBA championship in the first two weeks of the season; however, the 76ers will have to set high standards from the opening tip, or the noise around the franchise will be far from positive. Even at the ripe age of 41, James will be expected to be integral to Philadelphia's blueprint this year, or will be the victim of a media barrage.
While Micah Parsons clearly isn't a fan of LeBron James sporting a Sixers jersey this season, it should only highlight the potential this roster possesses. Expectations should be high in South Philly for the upcoming season, but if things don't trend in the right direction from the opening tip, the atmosphere could swiftly turn toxic.
