The Philadelphia 76ers are basically prevented from making any more additions to the roster, barring a move to jettison one of the players on the lineup. And with Bronny James technically under contract with the Lakers, there seems to be a total lack of avenues for the team to reunite him with LeBron. Well, that could actually change if Los Angeles decides not to bring the younger James to their opening day lineup.
Apparently, the belief is that the Lakers will use training camp as a platform to see if Bronny should still make the cut even if his father is already elsewhere. Chris Mañon, who plays the same position and arguably has a higher ceiling, is believed to be slated to compete with Bronny for their final roster spot. If the latter is let go, that is an opening the 76ers can take advantage of to reunite him with LeBron.
The 76ers could still reunite LeBron with Bronny with this one Lakers move
With LeBron gone, it is clear that Bronny's footing in LA has become shakier. The undeniable truth is that the superstar was the main reason why the Lakers even drafted him in the first place. As such, notwithstanding Bronny's fully guaranteed deal, his place on the roster is far from entrenched, especially given the Lakers' desperation to keep up with the beasts of the West.
Assuming that Bronny ends up getting waived, the 76ers would need to cut one of their players, most likely Jabari Walker, to open up cap space in order to bring in the younger James. Obviously, Philly should quickly line up to try and acquire him given that LeBron could very well be playing in his final season.
LeBron and Bronny already made history as the first father-son duo to play at the same time in the NBA. Winning a championship together in Philadelphia would further immortalize them in basketball history. Well, that is still in play if they actually reunite.
While this proposition may not look good optics-wise, the 76ers already got a colossal bargain by signing James to a minimum deal. Now, they should be compelled to return the favor by giving LeBron what he desires, which is to play and win with his son as he enters his possibly final hurrah in the NBA.
Again, this potential reunion is not something the 76ers can fully control, but if the stars align, they should undoubtedly take action.
