The Philadelphia 76ers may be an idle customer now after getting swept out of the playoffs, but they are not completely unfelt at this juncture. Some of their former cogs are still in action, although one of them had just been jettisoned out of the race. Tobias Harris, a name so familiar, if not infamous, among the fanbase, had just seen his season end with the Pistons.
Hosting a Game 7 against Cleveland, Detroit found itself get decimated early on and the visitors never looked back. It also did not help them that Harris was a complete no-show, finishing the night (and his campaign) with five points and five rebounds. He missed all six of his shots as all of his points came from the charity stripe. Sounds familiar, right? Well, the 76ers have definitely seen this movie play out before.
Harris had started in all of his appearances for the Pistons over the last couple of seasons, but his production has remained average. Worse, his playoff numbers have gotten stale as usual, which is something that he carried over from his unremarkable time in Philly not too long ago. Now, suffice to say that Detroit can finally empathize with 76ers fans with regard to just how shaky the veteran can be.
The 76ers saw Tobias Harris' playoff struggles coming from a mile away
Harris' final disappearing act to cap off his team's season is perfectly reminiscent of the way he ended his 76ers stint. For those in need of a refresher, the veteran forward laid a big, fat egg in his last game for the franchise, finishing with zero points in 29 minutes in Game 6 of their first-round affair against the Knicks two years ago.
The 33-year-old simply has a penchant for a major crashout when his team desperately needs him to produce. He has done it in Philly, and now Detroit is the latest victim of his propensity with failing to deliver when the lights are at their brightest.
It is only unfortunate that Harris kept his act up for the Pistons, which had just won in Game 6 rather convincingly. They seemed to have snatched back all the momentum heading into the subber match, but Cade Cunningham simply did not get any help. Harris was one of the players they relied on for ancillary scoring, but he failed to even swish a single bucket.
Tobias Harris is no longer someone whom the 76ers should concern themselves with, but if there is one thing clear, it is that he has not changed one bit from his choking tendencies. Now, the Pistons will have to deal with him, although he will be hitting the open market this time around.
