The Philadelphia 76ers, parading one of, if not the most talented roster in the league for the 2024-25 season, have the innings of a potential history-maker this time around. If all goes well, they should have an inside track to snap a 41-year championship drought and fully realize a goal that has become elusive for the franchise.
Led by a trio of All-Stars who complement each other to a tee, the 76ers can easily be penciled in as a title contender. But before they get to the playoffs, they must first ace the long test of the regular season. And in doing so, they could very well shatter some franchise records along the way. Here are four that could be rewritten in the upcoming campaign.
4. 76ers record for free-throws made in a game –– 24
Record Holder: Willie Burton & Allen Iverson
This is a bit of an easier call. Joel Embiid, who led the NBA in free-throw attempts at 11.6 per outing, could very well break this record next season. His sterling 88.3 percent conversion rate from the charity stripe only fortifies this belief.
As of writing, no one in the NBA can really handle Embiid individually in the low-post. Teams often resort to doubling him up and fouling him to avoid easy conversions, but that's where the problem lies for the opponents. Embiid is a great foul shooter, and is even better at drawing contact, whether you like it or not.
We can easily see Embiid next season attempt more than, say, 26 free-throws and miss only two all game, especially against teams deploying inexperienced centers who tend to have trouble not fouling a crafty and persistent contact-seeker like Embiid.
