The Philadelphia 76ers quickly moved the needle at the start of free agency, signing veteran big man Andre Drummond for his second go-round with the franchise.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the 76ers have come to terms with Drummond on a two-year deal, besting other offers for the widely coveted backup center.
Drummond, 30, turned in a very productive campaign last season, tallying nightly averages of 8.4 points and nine rebounds in just 17.1 minutes of court time. He was easily one of, if not the league’s best second-unit center, and had multiple suitors even before the trade deadline.
A two-time All-Star, Drummond played for Philly during the 2021-22 season before heading elsewhere. Now, he returns to a 76ers team in dire need of ancillary help behind the injury-prone Joel Embiid.
Philadelphia tried to acquire Drummond earlier, but to no avail. This time around, they secure probably the most ideal backup for Embiid, giving the 76ers much more functional depth heading into next season.
