The only reason why the Philadelphia 76ers are not yet officially finished wheeling and dealing this offseason is Quentin Grimes. The free agent guard seems to still be at an impasse with the front office, at odds with the specific figure that would appear on his next contract in light of his brilliant play during the latter juncture of the previous campaign.

As everyone knows by now, Grimes is seeking a huge payday, hoping to be handsomely compensated for the razzle and dazzle he turned in when he was shoehorned into a featured role on offense last season after coming over from Dallas before the trade deadline.

However, the 76ers have not yielded to his camp's inferred demands, staying firm on their stance of letting the market dictate his price tag. Unfortunately for the 25-year-old, there was never really a market for him –– in no way because of teams thinking that he is a fluke, but because they simply cannot afford to extend him a lucrative offer.

But no matter how much Grimes delays the inevitable, his clear ending is that he will return to Philly. That is all but guaranteed in light of this overlooked, yet uncomfortable truth about his career thus far.

Quentin Grimes will end up with the 76ers no matter what

Not a lot of peoplehave has made mention of this, but Grimes does not have any experience whatsoever playing for a huge payday. As pointed out here, so far in his career, he has accumulated only around $11 million.

Why is this relevant, you asked? Well, that fact is definitely a springboard for him to inevitably take whatever the 76ers are offering. From what can be deduced from his camp's actuations, that price tag is probably not lofty enough, but the front office is not necessarily trampolining in an endless pool of money.

The most viable and likely outcome for Grimes is that he will sign a short-term contract with the 76ers. Now, that comes with some important cons for both parties, but there is no better and more workable option right now other than this set-up.

For that reason, the 76ers have virtually zero reason to fret about Grimes heading elsewhere and rush into a haphazard, half-baked deal. There is an inevitable ending to this summer saga, and it's a clearly beneficial one for the franchise –– even if only for a fleeting period.
