Stocking Up On NBA Elite

I think we’ve been on the right track.   I think that there are places in the Philadelphia front office and coaching staff that need to be filled.   I think that the Philadelphia 76ers made a wise choice in selecting Mike D’Antoni for an associate head coaching role on the staff.  It shores up the staff with the Philadelphia 76ers, and the D’Antoni name can be associated with the turnaround.  But why Mike D’Antoni?  The reason lies in the team.  The Philadelphia 76ers continue to drag on the bottom of the NBA in scoring.  When one player gets hot, the others on the roster seem to cool.  D’Antoni can help with that, he has improve the games of many NBA players as he integrates his fast pace offense.

That is synched in wonderfully with Brett Brown’s Pace Space Pass mantra, and will give Brown more time to focus on defense, which has eroded to 23rd in the league.

ALSO ON SIXER SENSE: The Next Gem?

There will be personnel moves going forward.  Some will make perfect sense and some will cause some head scratching.  But for now, don’t look for another Colangelo to take on a role with the Sixers.   I continue to hear that the NBA is punishing the Philadelphia 76ers for tanking.  But let’s look at what is actually happening.  The NBA is not swapping out anyone.  They are accumulating talent to run the team that is still in the process of being built.  The team has amassed a treasure trove of NBA convertible assets.  Huge salary cap dollars available, huge pool of young talented NBA players, and two first round equivalent players merging with as many as four NBA first round draft selections from this draft joining the roster.

How can it go wrong?  Well, if you get impatient and sever the architect from the project, that’s how.

APRIL 6 2016 UPDATE:

And then this rumor began:

Now the question must be asked when, not if, Bryan will be joining his father.  There is an ocean of talent in the NBA that can swell to the 76ers.  Perhaps the team is finally filling the coaching to handle the talent that has and will soon arrive.  With Jerry as the the Philadelphia 76ers in the family, we have plenty to work with. Now with the reports of Sam Hinkie stepping down, the only logical conclusion is that Jerry Colangelo has someone in mind. That someone will certainly be someone he knows well. Bryan Colangelo may reunite with his father after all.

This is a shock wave that will take days to absorb.  We will do our best to bring you the latest and greatest information.   But I can’t lie to you.  This doesn’t feel like a good move to me.
