Philadelphia 76ers NBA Rountable: NBA Draft Day Scenarios Caused by NBA Lottery

From now until the lottery on May 16th,  The Sixer Sense will be featuring a round table discussion between some of The Sixer Sense‘s contributors. Each day the lottery will be simulated via Tankathon and our contributors will talk through what options the Philadelphia 76ers would have and the trade possibilities, as well as a recommendation for who the 76ers should draft.

More from The Sixer Sense

Today another roll  from Tankathon.com presented the following draft order:

Draft PositionTeam
1Philadelphia (via Sacramento)
2Boston (Via Brooklyn)
3Minnesota
4Phoenix
5Philadelphia (via Lakers)
6Sacramento (via Philadelhia)
7Orlando
8New York
9Dallas
10Sacramento (via New Orleans)
11Charlotte
12Detroit
13Denver
14Miami

All Hail Sam Hinkie! This is as close to the dream scenario for the Philadelphia 76ers as you can get. The pick swap from the Sacramento Kings as part of the Nik Stauskas Robbery of 2015 comes into play and the Sixers win the lottery.

The panel of Sixer Sense contributors  Jason Blevins, Anthony Depaul, and Lucas Johnson weighed in. So here is what our analysts had to say:

"Jason Blevins – He died for our sins"

On who may be taken ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers

No one…… No one at all….

On who the Sixers may target – The Roundtable

Jason Dandy

I think Fultz is the unanimous number 1, but after thar it gets tricky. I could see Boston actually taking Tatum at 2 and play him at stretch 4. Then Minnesota would take Lonzo and Phoenix would take Jackson. So If I was the Philadelphia 76ers front office, I would take Monk at 5.

Jason Blevins

It could play out that way but I’d go Isaac over Monk. I see a well defined role for Isaac but Monk would be interesting as a bench scorer.

Jason Dandy

Monk would instantly start at SG, the lineup would be:

Markelle Fultz

Malik Monk

Robert Covington

Ben Simmons

Joel Embiid

Dario as the 6th man, or start Dario over RoCo, either way.

Myles Stedman

In that situation, I see it going

  1. Fultz
  2. Jackson
  3. Ball
  4. Fox
  5. Isaac

As much as I hate Jonathan Isaac. You could also get me on board with drafting Josh Jackson at #1 and letting a point guard fall to us at #5. So, for example that would look like 1. Jackson, 2. Fultz, 3. Ball, 4. Fox, 5. Dennis Smith. But I’m not a “fill needs” guy when it comes to the Draft

Anthony Depaul

If anyone hasn’t listened yet, I recommend listening to a new podcast from The Ringer with Kevin O’Connor and Jonathan Tjarks — High Upside Provided some great insight. It will make everyone, myself included, more excited about the prospects of getting Jonathan Isaac at 5 to pair with Fultz. I mostly agree with your order Myles. I would just swap Fox for Tatum in the PHX slot at 4.

Myles Stedman

Yeah that’s true, I think Phoenix may try to trade Eric Bledsoe this season though so I’ve gone and given them Fox. I sadly see massive bust potential in Isaac. I hope he proves me wrong

Jason Dandy

I dont think many NBA teams are nearly as high on Isaac as you guys are suggesting, almost every mock draft and big board has him in the 8-10 range. Taking him top 5 is a reach, in my opinion.

Anthony Depaul

You are probably right about that, Jason. DraftExpress has him after Monk and Fox. The Ringer guys have him pretty high, though, but they definitely don’t represent mainstream GM thinking. If the Sixers don’t choose to go with Monk at 5 who would be your next guy?

Jason Dandy

I think Isaac would be next on our big board behind Monk, but I wouldnt pass on Monk for Isaac

Anthony Depaul

Yeah, the shooting there is hard to overlook.

Lucas Johnson

Fultz at one, Monk at 5. Done.

Anthony Depaul

I would be extremely happy with those two as well. Just makes for such a balanced team. If Fultz and Simmons can defend up to their athletic profile, with RoCo and Embiid, that’s just devastating

Consensus

The team all agrees that Markelle Fultz should be taken #1 by the Philadelphia 76ers. After that a debate rages over Jonathan Isaac and Malik Monk.

Next: Roundtable #3, Philadelphia 76ers get #3 and #6
