Reason II: Tony Wroten is versatile enough for a second look.
The roster of the Philadelphia 76ers is completely different from that of two years ago. Before, offense and defense were still under construction. Now, the team is still building, but the roster is far more cohesive. Cohesive enough to challenge for a playoff spot.
Sir Charles In Charge
This is a team stepping up to fulfill its destiny. A destiny of winning, perhaps? But it is only made possible by players who stepped foot onto the basketball court as coaches worked towards developing tomorrow’s stars. He never played on a full 15 man roster. First, Nerlens Noel sat out a full year of rehab. Then Joel Embiid sat out two full years of rehab. Ultimately, the team and Wroten ran out of time.
New opportunity
But this is a new window of opportunity. The team is loaded with youth, both on the roster and stashed overseas. The team is loaded with talent where there was none before. Now, the team needs some players to fill in the cracks. Players who are versatile enough to play multiple roles with the team who can absorb the excess minutes from starters.
2017 is a start to building a championship. Unlike the myriad of trade scenarios offered, someone has to play solid fundamental basketball while starters rest. That someone could be a resurging Wroten.
