Shooting Guard

Starter

Speaking of the Philadelphia 76ers starting shooting guard, the team has a new comer in Josh Richardson. After losing former starter J.J. Redick in free agency, the team acquired Richardson in the trade that sent Jimmy Butler to the Miami Heat. Last season as the Heat’s leading scorer, he averaged 16.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists. Richardson is entering his prime and should be a reliable scoring option for the Sixers.

Primary reserve

After a season of mostly rehabbing, Zhaire Smith is primed and ready to take over the role as Richardson’s backup. He showed flashes late last season and during this past summer league (stats per RealGM) of being an explosive athletic reserve. James Ennis could see a lot of time at the shooting guard spot this season, but he could see even more time at small forward due to his 6-foot-7 frame.

Rest of depth

Milton is a combo guard, so he could see time as a reserve shooting guard as well. Rookies Matisse Thybulle and Marial Shayok should be in line for minutes at the position. Thybulle could force his way into the rotation, if he impresses in training camp. Shayok will be limited in playing time due to the nature of his two-way contract. Sharp shooter Furkan Korkmaz could be in line for minutes at the shooting guard spot as well.
