Just like the other frontrunners for LeBron James, the Philadelphia 76ers are heavily occupied with mapping out their road map to acquiring the megastar. It appears that the Warriors remain desperate to stay in the race, which is probably why Draymond Green has been revving up his pitch to the King and spending time with him. Well, the 76ers have a hard counter to that in the form of Tyrese Maxey, who is likewise rumored to have been leading the recruiting for Philly, per ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

The 76ers counter Draymond Green with Tyrese Maxey's recruiting

It is no secret that Green has been publicly endorsing the Warriors to LeBron's camp for his next and probably final landing spot, and that definitely carries great heft in the bidding war. The eccentric veteran, after all, has long been one of James' closest confidants in the league given all of their heated battles in the Finals in the previous decade.

Well, the 76ers have unleashed Maxey to do the same recruitment role, and it is certainly a good counter to what Green is currently doing for the Dubs. The All-Star guard, after all, also touts a clear link to the megastar being from Klutch Sports himself, a concentric circle that can essentially be considered as LeBron's extended family in the NBA.

76ers have an edge over the Warriors in the race

Among the reported finalists for LeBron, the Warriors find themselves in a bit of a tougher spot.

There is a reason why the 76ers, Cavaliers, and Heat are believed to be ahead of them in the race. It likely means that Draymond's pitch –– despite James' camp taking it seriously –– might be far from enough to overcome the cons that come with the prospect of the megastar heading to Golden State, at least narrative-wise.

James clearly cares about the optics of the situation, which makes the 76ers a far more sensible option for him than the Warriors. It would be a bad look for him in the final chapter of his illustrious career to team up with the nucleus that beat him in the Finals three out of four times.

With Philly, aside from the familiarity he has with Maxey and even Joel Embiid, his Team USA teammate, he can help snap a title drought that has lasted for more than four decades –– an appealing way to close the curtain on his career.

Only time will tell if the Tyrese Maxey-led recruitment pitch by the 76ers is enough to lure LeBron into Philly, but it is definitely a leg up on their competition. And while he may fall short a little against Draymond Green, who has had a longer relationship with James, taking the entire situation into account, Philly should still have the edge over the Warriors.
