Thanks to the Philadelphia 76ers winning the LeBron James bidding war, the franchise has become a hotspot for some of his previous teammates who are seeking a reunion with him. One free agent who has previously registered interest in joining the team is Kevin Love. However, the team does not really have a need for him at this juncture. Fortunately, a new rumor points to the Timberwolves helping them to prevent that from happening.
As recently revealed by The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski in his Timberwolves podcast, Minnesota's brass and Love have a mutual interest in a reunion for the upcoming campaign. The former All-Star started his career with the franchise, where he spent six seasons as their franchise player. If that materializes, the 76ers would officially be spared from the possibility of him reuniting with James.

Philadelphia still has one roster spot remaining, and while they are currently unable to fill that up unhindered, it does not change the fact that the front office has to be very deliberate with their prospective additions to the lineup ahead of their championship bid.
At this point in his career, Love is no longer a feasible rotation player on a team aiming for the title. At best, he should only serve as an emergency floor-spacing big man whose real value lies in being a strong veteran presence and locker room leader. He will be 38 years old at the start of the 2026-27 season, and that alone makes him someone the 76ers should steer clear of.
Love is still a good rebounder, but his three-point shooting has taken a steep decline in recent years. He has drained just 34.7 percent of his triples over the last three seasons. Furthermore, his defense –– which was never really a strength of his in the first place –– has only gotten worse.
As he sees his career slowly come to a close, Love is understandably looking for some sentimental bits. However, the more rational reunion for him is one with Minnesota, the team that drafted him, and not with LeBron, who will be co-piloting what could very well be a historic campaign for his new ball club.
With all due respect to the veteran, the Philadelphia 76ers cannot just afford to accommodate his wishes to end his career with a reunion scenario. As such, he would be better off returning to his roots with the Timberwolves instead.
