Jaylen Brown is now with the 76ers, but his trade saga with the Celtics will keep following him, likely for the rest of his career. Recently, reports about the All-NBA wing actually being the one who forced a trade out of Boston have been making rounds on the internet, but one key detail, which everyone seems to be glossing over, makes them hard to believe. After all, the timing of this revelation is pretty convenient for those peddling this hate-inducing agenda.
Brian Scalabrine, a former NBA veteran and current analyst for the local Celtics broadcast, recently claimed that it was indeed Brown who sought a way out of Boston, allegedly coming to the front office and giving them an ultimatum to follow his list of demands or trade him altogether. Scalabrine added that Brown circled Milwaukee as his preferred destination before ultimately getting shipped to Philadelphia.
Strange timing has Scal's Jaylen Brown spill sounding entirely made up
With Brown adding fuel to the fire in his cold dynamic with Celtics star Jayson Tatum right now, there is definitely a lot of angst coming from both parties. It is not surprising to see some of these prejudicial tidbits suddenly come out, but the spill surrounding the 76ers star is simply hard to believe, given that it hadn't been hinted at before when his trade saga was at its peak.
Assuming that Scalabrine's claim had even a modicum of truth to it, everyone would have heard of Brown scripting his own exit way back in June. While it was no surprise that he got traded due to his fallout with Boston's brass after the franchise fumbled the bag on Giannis Antetokounmpo, it was never reported at that time that Brown had instigated his own trade saga by, say, coming out with his list of demands and issuing a stern ultimatum to the Celtics.
In addition, according to ESPN's Kris Rhim, Brown's representation had categorically denied the allegations hurled at the 76ers wing, reiterating that following Boston's spoiled Giannis pursuit, JB's lone request was to have input on his eventual landing spot.
The response by Brown's camp easily aligns more with rhyme and reason. Had he truly controlled his own fate, the 76ers might not have even gotten him. After all, there was no reason for the former Celtics star to want to jump ship to Philadelphia, as reflected by the fact that it was an all-time shocker that he got shipped to the Celtics' Atlantic Division rival in the first place.
If anything, this feels like damage control on the part of Boston's brass or an attempt to vilify Brown. Well, the Celtics simply do not deserve to come out with clean hands on this one, as the status quo remains that it was Boston that slowly pulled the strings to be in the position where they had to part ways with the All-Star.
